My Story

I spent 20 years as a special education teacher before taking a big leap in August 2024 to switch over to Family & Consumer Science. Teaching today’s future chefs and bakers reignited my own creativity and pushed me to finally pursue a dream I’d been carrying for a long time—starting a small business that is rooted in something I'm passionate about.

Many of my students dream about turning their passions into businesses of their own. By building a business myself, I’m able to share the real story—the excitement, the challenges, the learning curves, and the small wins that happen along the way. It’s helped me create honest, meaningful conversations in the classroom about what it really takes to follow a dream.

When I’m not teaching, you can usually find me working with clay or experimenting in the kitchen. Those two passions came together in Clay & Crumb, a business that blends handmade pottery with small-batch baking. I create both decorative and functional pottery like: figures, mugs, bread bowls, dishes, (and much more) along with baked goods that are created with real, wholesome ingredients.

Clay & Crumb is all about connection—between food and art, learning and doing, and passion and persistence. I sell my work through weekly "drops" on hotplate and at local craft and farmers markets. I am also working on designing hands-on workshops where people can learn culinary and pottery skills.

Community is a huge part of why I do this. Through my work as a Family & Consumer Science teacher and as the owner of Clay & Crumb, I love sharing my journey, building partnerships, and bringing creativity into the community. Dreams don’t have to stay ideas—and that with curiosity, hard work, and heart, they can grow into something real.

I am a repeat customer of Clay & Crumb sourdough bread. I have purchased sourdough bread from grocery stores, bakeries and various local home bakers, but nothing compares to the delicious flavor and wonderful texture of Clay & Crumb sourdough bread, and other baked goods. Give it a try, you’ll be back for more! Another winner at Clay & Crumb is her handcrafted pottery, very unique pieces, well made, and beautifully finished!

Absolutely delicious pretzels, bread and cookies! The pretzels taste have just the right amount of salt and cookies are perfectly sweetened! Yum!

Clay and Crumb is an absolute gem of a small business, and I’m so glad I discovered them. Their handcrafted sourdough products are on another level and are fresh, flavorful, and made with the kind of care you simply don’t find in commercial baked goods. The sourdough pretzel bites, in particular, are incredible. Soft on the inside, perfectly chewy on the outside, and full of that deep, rich sourdough flavor that keeps you coming back for more. They are easily my new favorite snack.
Beyond the baked goods, Clay and Crumb also offers beautiful artisan-crafted pottery pieces that feel just as thoughtfully made as their food. You can tell this business pours heart, skill, and pride into everything they produce.
Order fulfillment is always timely, the packaging is careful and professional, and the quality for the price is a true value. It feels great to support a small, family-run business that prioritizes real ingredients, traditional methods, and healthier alternatives to the overly processed products filling store shelves.
I highly recommend checking out Clay and Crumb. Whether you’re ordering for yourself or gifting to someone else, you won’t be disappointed. A fantastic find and well worth supporting!
